Excellent grammar review!
I really enjoyed this book from beginning to end. The grammar is explained in a clear and concise way — not only with explanations but with plentiful examples too. My favorite sections of this book are the adjective and adverb sections which provide lists of common adverbs, how they are used, etc. Both chapters taught me things that I didn’t know, and I learned some things in this book that I never learned in any classroom situation.
Complex grammatical situations are not dumped onto the student in one go but explained through small subsections. As you learn and practice one grammatical area, you proceed to the next one, hitting more complex grammatical concepts as you progress – this is evident in the section where the author explains the various usages of the prepositions, starting off first with the English equivalents and then branching out into more idiomatic examples. This concept is repeated in all the chapters of the book and provides an excellent model for the rest of the book.
I’m really impressed by the author’s ability to communicate effectively to her readers. What makes this book standout is that not only are you reading about the grammar but you have the chance to practice it too with the hundreds of exercises (and answers) included in the book. It’s hard to find any fault with this book which does its job well. With a class or on your own, you can’t go wrong with this book which functions not only as a workbook but also an excellent desk side reference. For those studying Italian on your own, this book works best when coupled with an audio tape course, like Pimsleur or something like Rosetta Stone or any other of the many online sites and tools out there that help you HEAR the language. This book won’t help you to learn to speak Italian (there’s no CD accompanying this book), but it will help you to learn and/or improve your grammar to become a better speaker and listener in Italian.
Perfect for beginners and also strong review for intermediate and advanced students. You’d be surprised what you will learn!
Very useful and a great bargain!
Good Italian workbooks are pretty difficult to come by. Unlike Spanish and French, there are very few grammar workbooks available which cater to the high school/university student who is studying Italian for written/spoken competency (as opposed to travel).
This text is a great compilation of grammar exercises with an answer key. It would be a great supplement to a course workbook or for a self-study student. Difficulty ranges from intermediate to advanced. It might be be better suited for a student who has already completed Italian 101 or Level 1. Highly recommended!
Great reference book; lacks drill exercises..
I ordered this workbook as a supplement for my Italian students, after having owned, studied & thoroughly enjoyed ITALIAN VERB DRILLS by the same author. GRAMMAR DRILLS, while thorough in its explanation, comes up lacking with regard to actual drills for students.
A long-time language student, I appreciated the extensive, repetitive grammar exercises in ITALIAN VERB DRILLS that helped me to reinforce those still-weak areas. (VERB DRILLS dedicates at least 4 full pages and about 120 questions to each verb tense, with additional pages focusing on irregular verb forms!) This text continues to be a useful references and practice companion.
ITALIAN GRAMMAR DRILLS, however, dedicates a mere 2 pages to each grammar point, the first page of which is pure explanation. This leaves 1 page (about 2 exercises or 20 questions) for students to practice each new concept. Granted, a book dedicated to the whole of grammar as opposed to just verbs has a much wider subject to cover, and rightly so, GRAMMAR DRILLS is about twice the size of VERB DRILLS. Even so, I feel it could have benefited with even more girth its students, who, upon completing 2 exercises, likely forget again (as is repeatedly the case in language studies) the point they’ve just covered.
In its defense, the explanation it offers is clear and easy to follow, and the author has included many useful examples, often drawing attention to irregular uses of particular grammar structures. I recommend it as a worthwhile addition to your language library, until a more flawless workbook is discovered.

It Won’t Be Wrong if they’d packed this CD to the hilt
I have always been curious as to why this CD always garners five star reviews. True, the music that is on it is supreme Byrds, the ultimate in twelve string sound. All are essential classics in their own right.
However, In its original 11 song configuration, in addition to being rated for what’s on it, it should be rated for what isn’t on it.
This remaster does boast superb 20 bit sound, and three bonus tracks: Set You Free This Time, It Won’t Be Wrong, and Have You Seen Her Face (giving Chris Hillman a needed representation).
However, the CD still clocks at around 39 minutes, meaning half the disc is not utilized. Why not pack this CD to the gills and make it one definitive overview of the Byrds prime period? What about The World Turns All Around Her, Everybody’s Been Burned, Renaissance Fair, the b-sides: She Don’t Care About Time, Why, and Lady Friend. Hence, this CD comes up way short.
One hopes that a volume two Greatest Hits is given similar treatment. Maybe then they might offer us the mono version of Goin’ Back. This is a different take than the stereo and wasn’t included (for some odd reason) as a bonus track on The Notorious Byrd Brothers CD.
Crystal clear “Super Bit Map” recording of EARLY Byrds hits!
I happened to be visiting relatives in LA in 1964 or ’65 when I had the good fortune of catching the Byrds television debut on the Lloyd Thaxton Show. I was struck as much by what I heard as what I saw: America’s first answer to the Beatles.
At one time I owned all the Byrds albums on vinyl up to “Sweetheart of the Rodeo” and “Easy Rider.” Later I created my own “greatest hits” cassette, a full 90 minutes worth.
This “Greatest Hits” album falls far short of all the wonderful music produced by Roger McGuinn, David Crosby, Chris Hillman, Gram Parsons and others, but for someone wanting to have a prime sample of early Byrds, heavy on the trademark Rickenbacker 12 string fingerpicking sound, this is a great place to start.
This “Super Bit Mapping” recording is superior to other recordings I have heard of the Byrds and manages to bring out subtleties in the early recording process that were the subject of many rumors. Most notable is that it’s much easier to pick out the various layers of overdubbing (both the Rickenbacker 12 string and McGuinn’s vocals).
True fans of the founders of folk-rock will want to supplement this album others. Be sure to get your hands on tunes like “He Was a Friend of Mine” and “Lay Down Your Weary Tune.”
Incidentally, Roger McGuinn has an interesting web site with free downloads available of a lot of folk songs, many of which were staples of the 50s and 60s coffeehouse folk scene. Most of those recordings feature an acoustic Martin 12 string guitar, as well as some banjo picking.
The Byrds’ classic era…a knockout collection
This collection of greatest hits certainly lives up to its title. There are 14 (counting the three bonus tracks) fine slices of pure rock and roll from the 60s which still sounds life-affirming even to this day. From the well known classics “Mr. Tambourine Man” and “Turn, Turn, Turn” to lesser-known (but still equally impressive) gems like “All I Really Want to Do” and “Chimes of Freedom,” this CD shows proves that the Byrds not only defined the sound and spirit of the West Coast ’60s, but for a brief time were hugely influential in shaping rock and roll as a genre. The Byrds evolved considerably during the two years that these songs were recorded, and it is evident from the straight forward Dylan-meets-Beatles folk-rock of “Mr. Tambourine Man” to the pioneering psychedelic freak out “Eight Miles High” to the instrumentation in “So You Want to Be a Rock and Roll Star.” Every song on here is gorgeous, and each one deserves several listens.
This newly remastered version is truly a standout because it adds three additional bonus tracks, “It Won’t Be Wrong,” “Set You Free This Time,” and “Have You Seen Her Face.” I have to admit, “Set You Free,” though a pleasant effort by Gene Clark, is a bit too country-ish for my liking and I don’t care much for it. However, the other two bonus tracks are KILLER, and I am so glad that these were included. They may not have been hits like the rest of the songs (I believe they were released as singles, but sadly recieved little attention commercially), but “It Won’t Be Wrong” and “Have You Seen Her Face” both contain some of the best melodies I have ever heard from this group or anyone else, and I always enjoy listening to them. Pity these weren’t hits, they sure deserved to be. As it is, they remain supreme album cuts that make this great collection even greater.
This is a MUST have for any seroius rock fan. Don’t let this pass you by. If you are a casual fan, definitely pick this one up and prepare to get hooked. After listening to their classic hits, go back and pickup the remastered versions of the “Mr. Tambourine Man” and “Fifth Dimension” albums (both of which feature phoenomenal album cuts) to see what a truly inventive band the Byrds really were during this era.

Savage DVD
I have to say that I am a massive MMA fan, I love all the major comps, such as UFC, KOTC, Pride FC and IFL but the footage here of the real Vale Tudo made me a little queasy. This is full on bear knuckle, no rules fighting that even early UFC cannot compare to, and you have to have a strong stomach to cope with it. Saying that, I have not seen any of the footage of Wanderlei that they showed here and now having seen it, I can see where he got his nickname “The Axe Murderer” and “Mad Dog”. He is a savage and scary fighter. I was a little disappointed that there was no commentry on this DVD as all the fights were called in portuguese, I just would have liked to know a little bit more about his past, his trials and tribulations etc. Having said this though, you don’t really need someone to tell you that Wanderlei has just knocked someone out with a knee to the head, the visual is enough. If your a real fight fan and can handle a serious amount of blood, savage cuts and some occasional poor footage, then this is the DVD for you. It would also help to be a Wanderlei Silva fan as they only show him losing once.
Wanderlei: The Early Years of The Axe Murderer!!!
Wanderlei Silva is one of the most brutal fighters on the planet. I have enjoyed his career in UFC, and more predominantly, in Pride FC. With this DVD you get an early introduction to one of the most savage MMA fighters in the world. The production quality is surprisingly good, with an exception of some pixilated video on some of the special features (but as I have watched many fan-cam wrestling videos, this affects me not) It is a nice piece of history for anyone who is a Wanderlei fan, or even an MMA fan for that matter. It is a bare-fisted throwing, elbow piercing, knee crushing, reality inducing, thrill of a ride that I would recommend to any true connoisseur of MMA. Enjoy. -LL 2007

Works just fine
I bought these labels to use in the pantry. I have to keep our supplies inside plastic containers to prevent rodent interest. I now have a very organized pantry. We plan on using them in the garage to label our storage boxes and my husband will use them in his shop for all the car stuff. Very easy to stick. I did notice they do not stay well on the rubbermaid container lids. Only on the side panels. With as cheap as these are I can use two!
Great product from Avery
Perfect for when you want to either cover a larger area of your letter/package, or add a small picture on the label – just nice to have a larger size label when needed. I added a little Baby clipart picture next to the address when sending out Baby Shower invites with these, and it printed and looked fabulous – no smudges.

very good except for the speakers and the keyboard
I was waiting for so long for this laptop and Amazon has been delaying the release so I decided to get it from NewEgg.com for 1299. Looks like it paid off since Amazon bumped up the price.
The laptop is well built, I like the aluminum parts. I do not care for the red accents, would rather have it in dark grey or black. The blue LEDs and the red trims don’t really mix well for my taste.
I’ve tried Prince of Persia 2008, Tomb Raider: Underworld, in full resolution, V-sync, high settings. Very playable, very nice. The laptop gets hot (while gaming) on the right side but it’s nothing too bad. The fan is not loud.
The display is just gorgeous. Clear, sharp, vivid, decent viewing angles. I was at first sceptical becasue when you run the initial MSI install, it looks washed out but that is only until you get into Windows.
My biggest grief is the keyboard. It has too little support, is very floppy. I feel like the metal base sometimes gets caught by the magnets that hold the lid and then it jumps back, causing a weird sensation. The layout is unusual for me, the Ctrl/Fn keys are swapped and I still can’t get used to the position of Del/Home/End/PgUp/PgDn and such. I make way too many typos on this keyboard. It is mysteriously weird and awkward. I think, when the warranty is over, I will take it apart and fix it.
The second bad thing is the speakers. Way too weak, with no bass, distorted, sometimes even the grill resonates on some frequencies. The headphones output however is awesome. There is no cracking, no noise, it is totally clear. I am very impressed with it.
In a nutshell:
The good:

- good size, not too heavy
- good gaming performance (almost 9000 3DMark06s)
- Windows score is 5.3 (Processor 5.3, RAM 5.9, Aero 5.9, 3D 5.8, Disk 5.7)
- beautiful display, no dead pixels, very vivid
- audio output (headphones) is crystal clear with absolutely no noise at all
- line-in for recording
- battery life 2:30 after 2hr DVD movie (30 mins left)
The bad:
- keyboard (flex, Fn/Ctrl swap, lots of typos, touchpad gets in the way)
- speakers (weak, no bass, grill resonates)
- the BRay drive sometimes refuses to close (must be some mechanical issue) and sometimes (rarely, if the door was not closed well) opens spontaneously (looks like if I press on the chasis or move the LCD)
- I would welcome a USB port or two on the rear side
- Win 32, can’t utilize all 4GBs
All in all, this is the best gaming laptop for the money, I like and recommend it, if only those few bad things weren’t there !
Nice cheap gaming laptop
I ordered the gt627 because I wanted a good, cheap laptop for playing games and Blu-Ray watching. Not only is this laptop awesomely priced, but the specs are fantastic for the price.
Good:
-9 cell battery for long battery life.
-Nvidia 9800m gs with a 1 gig (yes, a gig!) of memory.
-Dolby Logic Home Theater certified.
-Centrino 2 processor
-Blu-Ray drive
-A bag! When’s the last time a computer manufacturer gave you a bag with a laptop?
Bad:
-Blu-Ray/DVD drive is a old fashioned pop out drive. Come on, MSI get with the times and but a slot loading drive in there!
-You’ll need to plug in the AC adapter to play most games. The CPU is underclocked when it runs on the battery, so games will run slowly without the AC power plugged in. Blu-Rays also need the AC power plugged in to run them properly.

So far so good. I’m a little skeptical of this product due to the price. But don’t be fooled this thing is a Power House laptop. I received the laptop from Amazon.com in perfect condition and standard shipping was fast enough. The turbo option on this laptop is a very nice feature for installing software fast and playing high end games. I didn’t notice any overheating problems. The keyboard feels a bit springy and flimsy but performs well. Overall this is an incredible deal for gaming laptop. If your looking for a high end gaming machine at a ridiculous price THIS IS IT. Nice work MSI!
