Works great for any inactive pickup

High Protein – Lactose Free – Tasty – But I’m A Little Skeptical Of(Some) Ingredients
I tried the Muscle Milk drinks. They are high protein and filling and I like that I can find them in Lactose Free varieties – chocolate and vanilla. So I thought I’d give the protein bars a go for a change from all that fluid intake(and output). I went with the Muscle Milk Light Chocolate Peanut Caramel. The bars were also zero lactose which is a plus in my case(I have a really really bad relationship with dairy products).

Nutrition info wise – they appealed to me as well. High protein 15 grms;low sugar 9 gr(compared to other protein bars), 170 calories – which are filling and satisfying ,0 cholesterol,6 gr fat(4 saturated, 0 trans)sodium – 105mg,100mg potassium and 4 gm of dietary fiber – not too bad – remember these are the “light” bars. If you are looking for a good source of vitamins and minerals, you won’t find that here, so I don’t think I would use them as a meal replacement.Also – there are 18 gr of carbs.

The taste was good – very chocolaty and a good taste of the caramel filling as well. The bar is small but hefty weighing in at 1.59 oz. And I found that it was a great way to control hunger between meals. I found though, they stuck to and between my teeth, so this is not something I would eat on the run or right before an important meeting. You really need to brush or rinse afterwards.

The ingredients, which include a bunch of stuff that just doesn’t sound too healthy(a couple I couldn’t pronounce) and the sticking to my teeth factor, keep me from going 4 or 5 stars.

Here are the ingredients(for the chocolate caramel peanut bar):

What the heck is fractionated palm kernel oil or crystalline fructose anyway? Partailly hydrogenated palm oil – isn’t that the stuff that all the experts say to stay away from?

Also included milk,peanuts,soy and manufactured in a facility that processes tree nuts.I’m guessing the dairy products like milk are something like “Lactaid” that doesn’t have the lactose. I had no lactose intolerant problems with these.
The shelf life looks to be about a year from the manufacture date.

So 3 stars I guess for being high protein, good tasting and lactose free -a VERY occasional snack.

Great Snack Bar
These are great if you areon the 5-6 meals a day plan. I use this as the mid morning snack I eat about 2-3 hours before lunch. It is 170 cals with 15g of protein. My only improvement would be to make it less dense. It is thick and can be tough to chew but I am not letting that stop me. I care about cals and neutrient quality.

Good–not great
I’ve eaten a number of protein bars in my time. Their tastes have ranged from darn good to “where can I spit this out?”

The Muscle Milk Light Vanilla Toffee crunch lands on the side of better than worse, but still nowhere near candy bar status using, say, Snickers as a benchmark.

The bar is small, and therefore contains just 15 grams of protein–less than half of what you’d get in a protein shake mixed with milk. However, 15 grams is not bad for a light snack and again, considering the size of the bar, it is indeed light.

The flavor? I can see claiming vanilla but I get no hint of toffee and even with sophisticated listening equipment you’ll detect no sound of a crunch, not will you feel one. It’s true, no crunch. The bar doesn’t taste bad, though it is a little tangy. No matter. Half a dozen bites and it’s gone.

The ingredients, if that sort of thing matters to you, are a mixed bag: some natural, some not. Remember, natural and artificial flavors generally mean MSG. What is an artificial flavor, anyway? You think it’s real but it’s not? Does it have flavor or doesn’t it? Is it from earth?

Anyway, folks, not to the worst way to get some additional protein into the system for those of us who work out–certainly far from the best as well.

GPS Data Logger
This product is a good GPS data logger if you are looking for a way to keep track files. It can be used for geo-tagging photos, recording paths taken on trips, and as a bluetooth GPS for navigation. It can log GPS track files internally while also being used as a bluetooth GPS. More pros is the ability to export the track files as raw NMEA files and KMZ files (Google Earth Files). It has a long battery life (I have had it running for over 16 hours straight) and has good reception (works in the NYC subway system, even under the east river).

There are some cons associated with it though. It seems that the only way to export the data from the internal memory is through their proprietary software, which can be troublesome when using multiple computers (this is just when accessing internal memory, not while using it as a bluetooth GPS). Also, reception is good is rural, suburban, and underground urban areas, but when above ground in an urban area, don’t expect an accurate path. I have tried to use this three times in NYC; each time while above ground, I have my actual path off varying from only a few feet to 3 blocks, though it works fine underground. (This is attributed to the signal bouncing off the tall buildings; I believe most entry level GPS loggers will do this.)

I recommend this to everyone looking to keep GPS track files, unless your sole plans are to use this in an urban area with tall buildings, which I then would find another GPS logger.

Great for photo geotagging
I bought the Holux M-1000c with the purpose of geotagging my photos. The software was really easy to use, and the time synchronization worked great. The instruction manual says that you need a special mini-USB cable in order to communicate via USB, but a standard mini-USB cable worked fine for me to download the data and configure the device.

I’ve also used the device in my car, and the it works great there as well.

A good all-around GPS + Data Logger
I own a standalone Globalsat BT-338 receiver, have a built-in GPS receiver in my HTC Touch 3G mobile, and have a GPS enabled Garmin Forerunner 405 watch/running computer as well. I needed one receiver with long battery life and data logging capability on an affordable price, so I went for the Holux M-1000C. Comparing the reception and the stability of the receivers the built-in Sirf III receiver of HTC has mediocre, the Forerunner has good and the standalone Globalsat and Holux both have excellent sensibility.

The Holux gets fix quite quickly, usually in 30 seconds. It always helps if you don’t move while it searches for the satellites, and once it gets fix it never loses again. In urban canyons, such as among the downtown high-rises the signal tends to bounce a bit in every direction, thus later I always modify the tracks with the so called ‘clamp to the ground’ function. It modifies the height vector based on Google Earth data and eliminates the vertical bouncing and produce a much more realistic elevation diagram – very similar to the barometric altitude meter results. Unfortunately the bound ezTour software doesn’t offer this function, but for example the (ex-Motionbased) Garmin Connect web service or the free TCX Converter utility do it for you.

The logger function of the M-1000C is excellent. There are 4 preset modes for logging: car, bike, running, hiking. In hiking mode for example records a waypoint in every 3 seconds and in every 10 metres, while these values in bike mode are 5 seconds and 5 meters. But it is possible to set these values manually according your preferences as well. The memory is huge, 4 hours of running log (recording in every 5 seconds) occupies 1% of the memory only.

Handling is easy: you turn it on, wait for the GPS led blinking (meaning fix) and there you go. When you finished just switch it off. Later in ezTour you can see you track in Google Maps and it is possible to modify your tracklog, like delete unnecessary waypoints, moving waypoints etc too. Unfortunately you cannot see the map under your track while you in Track Editor mode, though editing your track is reasonable manageable. While ezTour will not be your primary GPS track managing utility it does the basic stuff.

The Holux M-1000C delivers why I bought it: it can record the track of a week long hiking (with some external charging solution or spare battery as the battery last ‘only’ 28 hrs in logger mode), and I can use it as a bluetooth GPS with my navigation software on my HTC mobile if the built in GPS receiver gives up and/or I want to record my track.

Oh, did I mention that you can geotag your pictures with it?

This thing is so awesome!
This item is so small cheap and simple, AND AWESOME! I bought two for myself (one for home one for work) plus one for my mom as a gift! It makes peeling citrus fruits (mainly oranges) a breeze! no more orange peel bits stuck under your fingernails, no more trying to scrape off thick peices of peel that are hopefuly stuck to the outside of the orange. It really is a simple and USEFUL gadget.

Awesome Tool
I have had my citrus peeler for at least 5 or 6 years and it is the best tool I have ever used to peel fruits such as Grapefruits and Oranges. I eat a grapefruit everyday and the peeler makes my snack enjoyable to eat rather than a messy chore. It doesn’t just take the peel off, but also does a great job of cleaning off the white stuff just under the peel so you have just the fruit left. I recommend this tool to anyone who eats oranges or grapefruits and it is the most inexpensive useful tool you will ever find.

Does what it’s supposed to
Cuts the rind nicely. Not so sure about separating the rind from the orange though (leaves a lot of the white pericarp behind). I find it easier to use my finger to remove the rind once it’s been cut, then you don’t have to rely on the scraping part of the tool afterward.
