Skype Phone
Very cheep and "plastic" - main button didn't work out of the box. Put some $10 - $20 extra and buy something better. Amazon was prompt with return.

Could Not Make It Work - Not Recommended
This is a poorly designed, badly documented, and frustrating piece of equipment. The package says just plug it into a USB port and it will work, sadly that isn't exactly correct if you want it work with the Skype software.

The package contains the "phone" and mini-CD. You should read the PDF manual on the CD (some really funny and badly translated English) before installing the software. The user interface is not very intuitive and does not work seamlessly with the Skype client (reading the manual is definitely required).

My problems started right after connecting the handset to the USB port. This was installed on a fairly clean HP laptop running 64-bit Vista and there were immediate conflicts with the Windows System Tray. In addition, my PC's performance took a major hit and every application slowed to a craw. After uninstalling the software and the handset, everything returned to normal.

I ended up installing the handset without the software on an older XP desktop since the handset does work as a speaker and microphone, so can actually be used as a basic Skype phone (hence the two star rating) but without the handy features listed in the specks.

Not recommended!

All knives are not created equal. If you indulge in a variety of cheeses and are spending big bucks on the best quality, why not spend the money on the correct knife for cutting and serving your cheeses? Finely crafted enough for even an elegant cheese display.

Small yet playable
For a small travel banjo the Gold Tone CC Mini-Cripple Creek Banjo is very playable up to about the 12th fret or so. Higher up than that, the neck heel gets in the way of the palm of your left hand. They should have scaled down the neck heel instead of leaving it standard size as there's no need for a large neck heel on a small banjo. Additionally the banjo's action is a little too high. Or at least for me. I play Scruggs 3 finger and chromatic style. You could frail on it the way it is. I will eventually sand down the nut so the strings are closer to the neck and set of the angle of the neck to the pot with the rod in the back so the strings don't get higher off the fingerboard the higher up the neck you play. Having said that, it's still a very playable banjo. I did have to remove the arm rest and re-install it in the correct location on the tension hoop as the way it came, my forearm rested on the edge of it and not in the center. When I reset the arm rest, some of the chrome peeled off one of the tension nuts. They are chrome plated but not copper and nickel plated first so the chrome won't last as long. Don't let my comments scare you off as it's not uncommon to have to adjust a new banjo to your playing style. I would consider buying another Gold Tone. Mine is fully adjustable and well made. The gig bag it came with is well constructed and features a zippered pocket where the T nut (included) is also stored. Keep on Picking!

Great demographic program
I was very pleased to discover all of the data packed into this program. Setting up the query parameters is easy & the amount of info concerning places of interest (services, banks, transportation) is substantial. About the only drawback I found was the quality of the help contents, which was not very user friendly. Most of the time I was unable to find solutions to my question/problem because the data was way too complicated (displaying data in technical equations) or was not listed at all. However, calls to technical support usually resolved the questions. Finally, I was disappointed that the program does not allow you to print written legends off to the side on your map (ie: a listing of addresses for your push pin locations). Other than that, the program is very handy, loaded with tons of great data & the quality of the maps is superior.

Beware of Upgrades
First, keep in mind that Mappoint is NOT forward-compatible; i.e., your 2006 maps will be useless to anyone who owns prior versions. And, the 2006 version will not "save as" an older version either. In short, if you upgrade, everyone else will also need to upgrade.

Otherwise, it's a decent program, although its "idiot-proof" functionality inhibits flexibility. For example, city names will obscure your every map whether you want them or not. I remove them by exporting my maps as jpg files, and editing them in Photoshop -- but that is a huge, and unnecessary, nuisance.

Mappoint is a basic mapping program with some data-plotting features. Easy to use, colorful, very readable, but limiting. Microsoft could use some competition.

$25 worth of features in a $270 box
We purchased this software to map retail locations on a region. It is missing too many features to be usable. For instance, when you import a custom graphic pushpin, the software doesn't resize it as you zoom which forces you to create multiple sizes in another program. You can add text description boxes but have no control over the font or sizing -- and they don't resize either.

We highlighted our specific region but the software doesn't let you print just that region (called 'territory.) We searched the help files and their word 'territory' is not even listed.

You cannot save your map graphics in any standard graphics format, e.g. JPEG, PDF or ai. We tried printing to a PDF generator, but Map Point's map output is of very poor resolution even on the highest settings.

After wasting a lot of time, it's apparent we should have tried Google Maps/Earth with our graphics editing software for a solution that works.

Pack it with your compass, water flask and hiking boots
This is an incredible new scent from Ralph Lauren. It is as intoxicating as Polo Black but with a more casual style. There is a very strong note of rich northern amber in this scent, but then there is a also a brighter, cleaner note that practically clears the sinuses and that makes you feel like you are in the tropics. Wearing this cologne makes me feel like I have a well-worn passport in my pocket.

Perfect Scent for Me
I am a young man, age 21, who just recently started looking into the world of cologne. I felt it was time to ditch the aerosol body spray cans and find something to wear that would work day and night.

I took a lot of time to research and test some scents. A few looked good on paper but smelled bad in practice. I narrowed it down to woods rather than spice, musk or citrus. Explorer smells so wonderful. Wood scents in general smell masculine and sophisticated, but Explorer has a warm, inviting chord to it that makes it much more special than a traditional wood scent cologne. I believe this is due to the mahogany and amber. The scent as a whole is fresh, masculine, warm and inviting. I believe it will be my cologne for quite a while.

Received Damaged Twice
I ordered three frames, and the *middle* frame was the one with broken glass. Why use glass instead of plastic, I don't know. Customer service was understanding and didn't even ask me to return the item; it was replaced free of charge and I thank them for this. But the replacement came with broken glass as well! The packaging looks good, with the air-bubble packets, so the glass must be too fragile. If it comes intact, it looks great, so of course I've kept the first two, but I haven't even asked Amazon to replace the broken "replacement." I'll get another frame to be the third one instead.

Exactly what I wanted, for the right price

Spirited and earthy!
I don't know if this is the "ultimate" collection of medieval and Renaissance music, but it's certainly a darn good one, with more depth and spunk than most I've heard. The wide variety of selections, ranging from martial to spiritual and courtly to folksy, were drawn from four prior releases of Philip Pickett and the New London Consort: "The Feast of Fools", "Dances from Terpsichore", "Llibre Vermell" and "The Pilgrimage to Santiago". The CD insert suggests that "the sinners and saints that exist in everyone" will be drawn to this recording. "What you're listening to is not the domain of museums, but the music of the people, born of faith and the love of song and dance." And indeed, Philip Pickett and the New London Consort bring this music undeniably to life. Their sound is rich, full and quite winning. It is unfortunate that said insert, while containing texts and translations for all the songs, is rather lacking in information about the performers and instruments, but all in all, there seems to be a full complement of male and female singers, recorders, reeds, bowed and plucked strings, a hurdy-gurdy, drums, tamborine, and even an organ. If you enjoy this CD, you'll also like "The Little Barley-Corne: Winter Revels from the Renaissance" and "The Way of the Pilgrim: Medieval Songs of Travel" by the Toronto Consort, as well as "A la Via!: Street Music from the 13th to the 16th Centuries" by Ensemble Anonymus and Strada.

Best collection of Renaissance Dance Band Music!
After listening to other CDs which contain early music, I have to say this is my favorite. It contains an excellent range of pieces from the Renaissance and Medieval areas, and Philip Pickett and the New London Consort have outdone themselves with the performance of these works. It is highly listenable and makes for a terrific introduction to Renaissance dance band music. Overall, I feel that it is even better than Pickett's Terpsichore Dances CD and makes for an essential part of any classical CD collection.

Excellent renditions of lively 'old music'.
'Sinners & Saints' by Philip Pickett and the New London Consort is just a bit too ambitious with their subtitle, 'The Ultimate Medieval and Renaissance Music Collection' as I find it hard to believe that 70 minutes can be the ultimate anything on 500 years of history. This is especially true since they seem to focus a lot more on the sinners than the saints, as there is virtually no liturgical music here. But, since there are so many good recordings of medieval liturgies, we aren't missing much.

This is really the sort of thing you would expect to hear from a travelling troupe of minstrals, but not from a solo artist, as practically every performance involves several instruments and voices.

Some tracks will sound especially familiar, as they are very similar to Carl Orff's 'Carmina Burana', inspired by medieval texts.

Compared to many recordings of music from Shakespeare's time, this collection is superior and well worth the investment.

Another Gem from The History Channel
There is a vast amount of information on the French Revolution that can be found in scholarly texts, recreational articles, Internet sites, as well as a large selection of documentaries that have been produced over the years. A great number of these sources are well worth a look at for the serious student as well as the part time historian. Without hesitation, this documentary should be at the top of the list, because it is not only a perfect introduction, but also an extremely well produced and informative film.

The History Channel has produced many well-made and educational documentaries over the years. One would have to admit that their Biography Series is second to none. But they have really out done themselves with The French Revolution, as it covers the numerous causes of this important insurrection, focusing on major personages in the aristocracy, the enlightenment and the key political insurgents, painting excellent portraits of Maximus Robespierre and the mad journalist, Marat, leading to their ironic and bloody ends. The Reign of Terror is depicted particularly well with all its high drama, intrigue and endless flow of blood. Interestingly, these portraits of the major players in the revolution, Robespierre, Danton, Marie Antoinette and Louie the 16th, were all done with such pathos, that I came away from the film feeling real empathy for these people, especially Marie Antoinette. This is the way history, as a subject, should be taught, evoking feelings for the people and the times under study.

The documentary combines images, well-acted scenarios and informative interviews with academics including a compelling narration - it is also very well written, as it is tremendously difficult to cover such a complex event in a short time and do it any justice. If you have any interest in The French Revolution, an event that virtually changed the world, this documentary would be a suitable starting point. It would also be a worthwhile teaching resource for students in the middle years and above.

Interesting Introduction to the French Revolution
I glossed over the French Revolution back in junior high, but was not able to recount much years later. Because I don't have the time to read up on French history, I decided to check out this DVD.

First off, I was very pleased with the information I received from this program. I could easily look up the info from the web in a matter of minutes, but I doubt I could have learned as much as I did from the DVD. Quite simply, the program is done like a story (with visual reenactments) and laced with interviews from scholars. The result is that you're entertained from start to finish, while understanding the conflict and events that are being described.

And what's nice is that although the program isn't too long, it doesn't rush anything: we learn about Louis XVI's rise to the throne, his relationship with Marie Antoinette, and what led to their deaths. Robespierre and Marat's background are also analyzed, as they were both major players in the revolution.

In all, a great DVD to own. I've been watching PBS and History Channel documentaries/programs for some time, and I was pleased that this production was done well. Although I wasn't too educated on the French Revolution before this DVD, I felt that the program was done with detail and accuracy. I definitely recommend it!

"Let Them Eat Cake"
For those that know the famous,and most likely apocryphal, quote attributed to Marie Antoinette and little else about the French Revolution, the History Channel has finally produced an excellent documentary on this seminal event in world history. Enhanced with re-enactments and the usual historian/author commentary, this DVD brings the complex and bloody history of the French Revolution to life in a way that will entice the masses.

The French Revolution is without question one of the most important events of the 18th century if not world history in general. It's ultimately tragic end, culminating in the Reign of Terror and the execution of even it's own outspoken creators ,adds to the drama of what was to be the crowing achievement of the Age of Enlightenment. From Louis VIX and Marie Antoinette to Robespierre and Danton, this documentary covers it all, if not in fine detail, then just enough to motivate the interested viewer to research more on his or her own.

The French Revolution and its effects on the world stage have never been more accessible. This video was entertaining and educational and is recommended for teachers, students, and the amateur historian. Vive la France.

Root one for root stimulation
Root Hormones for stimulating rapid development are an important potting bench accessory since we have learned that it takes more than just some fertilizer to accelerate healthy plant development.

Root hormones come in Powder and liquid form. Rootone is the powder form. Small plants are simply dipped in the powdered or liquid form, and with what sticks to the root, the plant is set into the soil. These are good products for indoor propagation and outdoor propagation.

A must for the home gardener
This is one of the best products for starting new plants, trees, shrubs etc and is a must for the home gardener.

Use Gel
I used this product(from a local hardware) side by side with gel - on the same day, same plants, same soil, same lights, etc. Nothing Different! The results from the gel so outstripped the powder that I don't know why the powder is even on the market anymore. Maybe because some of us haven't tried or compared yet? Get a gel like rootech. The extra cost is worth it. It goes farther than you'd think and though I've heard the gel has an expiration date mine has been just as effective after two months of use, dirt dropped in it, ashes, and whatnot. This isn't as detailed and pretty as some comparitive reviews, but I compared and there was no contest.
